Getting to Know Animals
Together, you and your child will hold, feed, and get to know the inhabitants of the LHS Animal Discovery Room. Pet furry rabbits, make a playground for a rat, learn what toads eat, and build a ladder for a snake to climb. A participating adult must attend with each child.

Mud Pies
Make mud pies, create clouds of bubbles, and have fun with foams as you and your child investigate and compare different substances. Roll up your sleeves, and don’t worry—we’ll clean up the mess. A participating adult must attend with each child.

Science Toys
Learn about the properties of the physical world by inventing toys. Explore color mixing; and make a rainbow wand filled with incredible, super-absorbent crystals. Learn about gravity and inclines by constructing a marble runway, and invent your own recipe for play dough. Make a project to take home each week. A participating adult must attend with each child.

Physical Science for Curious Kids
Young scientists make kites, magnetic toys, and light circuits to take home as they experiment and share their observations on topics such as electricity, magnetism, and properties of air and light. These activities foster an intuitive framework for later science learning.

Storybook Science
Time for a story—and science too! Each week a different story sets the stage for activities and investigations to spark students’ creativity and scientific thinking. Experiments with shadows and light, bubble blowing, nature explorations, and handling live animals are integrated with children’s literature as well as math, art, and drama.

Colorful Science
Open your eyes to a world of color that features a “rainbow” of science activities. Use leaves, branches, rocks, and mud to camouflage real turtles, lizards, and insects. Explore color mixing with liquids, clay, and light. Create colors you’ve never seen before.

Dinosaurs!
A hundred million years ago, dinosaurs wandered the Earth. What were these ancient creatures like? Dig for fossil bones, use toy models to make footprints in class, act out dinosaur stories, make paper and clay dinosaurs, compare dinosaurs to the animals from our Animal Discovery Room, and try to unlock some of the mysteries of prehistory.

Lego Kingdom
Enter the fairytale world of King Graybeard and Queen Brownhair. Help the king and queen improve their kingdom by designing and building structures such as towers, wall, and bridges. Exploring the Solar System
What would it be like to live on Mars or Venus? What about a moon or asteroid? In this class we will see how scientists explore our Solar System from Earth and from space, bringing these faraway places closer in the planetarium and in the classroom. We will discover what it takes to travel through space and set up an extraterrestrial settlement.
