Professional Development
Professional development for users of Seeds of Science/Roots of Reading, or for those simply wanting to learn more about the program, is available directly from us. We offer both custom, on-site PD sessions geared to your specific needs, and workshops periodically scheduled at Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley. This three day workshop is designed for those who are interested in using the new Seeds of Science/Roots of Reading curriculum for Grades 2–5, and are looking for a better understanding of the Seeds of Science/Roots of Reading philosophy and the benefits of integrating science and literacy. Topics and activities to be covered:
- Presentation of the Seeds/Roots approach to integrating science and literacy.
- How Seeds/Roots addresses standards in both science and literacy.
- Firsthand experience with activities from multiple Seeds/Roots units.
- Review of the student books and the role they serve in supporting inquiry science.
- The benefits of the "Teaching Support and Considerations" features in the Seeds/Roots teacher guides and how to implement them.
- Information about the Seeds/Roots effectiveness studies.
- Review of the Seeds/Roots assessment system.
- A sneak peek at units in development.

General Information
- Cost for this three day session is $430, $395 per person for groups of two or more.
- Participants are responsible for lodging and
travel.
- Through the generous support of Delta Education each attendee will receive a teacher guide and a set of student books from the unit of their choice. This offer is limited to units that are published as of the time of the workshop.
- Sessions are held at Lawrence Hall of Science, University of California
at Berkeley.
- Sessions will remain open until filled. As we near the session
dates, please call to verify there is space available.
- Cancellations: We are unable to refund fees for cancellations made
less than two weeks in advance.
