Preschool Science

As a parent of a preschooler, you are the best person in the world to spark, support, and sustain your child’s sense of discovery and excitement. You can partner with the Hall—an exciting place for you and your preschooler to explore, play, and learn together.

Exhibits

  • Have fun in exhibit experiences specially designed for children in kindergarten and younger.
  • Build, stack, and construct with our collection of thousands of building blocks. Toddlers love them too!
  • Play with sand and water in the Forces That Shape the Bay outdoor exhibit.
  • Visit the Animal Discovery Room and get to know our friendly animals.
  • Drop in to The Ingenuity Lab where people of all ages are challenged to design and solve problems.

Planetarium Shows

The Hall Planetarium is a fun and fascinating place for preschoolers. Interactive shows are presented every Saturday and Sunday, plus holidays. A Sky Full of Stars is designed especially for children ages 4-8, with an adult. Shows are not appropriate for children younger than 4.

Classes

Hands-on classes spark excitement for discovering, exploring, and inquiring. Activities integrate science and math concepts with stories, games, and role-playing to benefit the whole child. We offer several parent participation classes.

Weekday and weekend programs are happening now.

The Hall offers preschool science workshops for children ages 3-5 at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center on the second Saturday of each month.

Schedule a Custom Program

You can schedule single-visit and multi-session workshops for your playgroup or child’s preschool at custom times and dates. Programs can be given at the Hall or at your site. For more information, call 510-642-5134 Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Birthday Parties

(for kids turning age 4 and older)

Is your preschooler a star gazer, mechanically minded, an animal lover, or a potions mixer? Your child can explore his or her special interest with friends and family with a fun-filled birthday bash at the Hall!

Parties include:

  • A 50-minute, fun and interactive workshop for as many as 15 children
  • Admission to LHS for up to 15 children, each accompanied by an adult
  • Reserved space in a shared multipurpose room after your workshop for your refreshments, or catering in The View Café
