This position is an ideal opportunity for undergraduate or graduate students with a science-oriented mind and a relationship-oriented personality. In this position you will facilitate fun, engaging, and meaningful hands-on science learning for in-person camps at The Lawrence. It is a great opportunity for professional growth and you will gain valuable experience in teaching science, technology, engineering, and math.

Pay: $21-25/hr

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for material management of individual camp sessions, including appropriate set-up, clean-up, and storage.
  • Develop an understanding of and the ability to facilitate camp programming in a fun, engaging, hands-on environment while supplying accurate scientific information. This may involve further reading or research on a subject or topic.
  • Present programs in an energetic, appropriate, and professional way that actively engages participants.
  • Manage a learning environment for participants’ well being and safety while managing expectations of behaviors.
  • Serve as an enthusiastic role model and mentor for youth grades 1-6.
  • Thoroughly understand the building safety and security and help implement emergency procedures when deemed necessary.
  • Adhere to all of the policies and procedures of the Lawrence Hall of Science.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Responsible, organized, and healthy work ethic.
  • Strong customer service and verbal communication skills.
  • Experienced and excited to share science experiences with youth entering 1 through grade 6.
  • Demonstrated creative teaching methods in informal or formal learning environments.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or a post-secondary education program in science, education, youth development, or related field and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Available to work May 22 – August 11, 2023. *Priority selection will be offered to those committed to working the entire summer and partial summer schedules may be available.
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to an assigned schedule up to full time, 40-hrs a week, Monday-Friday, 8:30AM-5:00PM (including lunch and breaks).
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively with an educational team.
  • A good sense of humor, flexibility, and ability to think quickly and adapt.
  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds (carts are available).

Pay: $21-25/hr
