The Social Media Content Assistant will play a vital role in enhancing The Lawrence’s online presence and engagement across various social media platforms. This position is ideal for creative and tech-savvy students who are passionate about social media marketing and content creation. The individual will support the Marketing and Communications team to produce high-quality and engaging content that reflects our institution’s values and objectives.

Working Title: Social Media Content Assistant

Working Days and Hours: minimum of 4 hours per week. Hours may be added as needed. (up to a maximum of 19 hours per week), (Mon-Fri 9am-5:30pm or Sat/Sun for events)

Salary: $18.50 per hour

Department Overview

The Marketing Department serve’s The Lawrence’s brand management, publications, website, social media, email marketing, advertising, signage, photo and video, and public relations’ needs. Its foremost priority is increasing the awareness and reputation of The Lawrence to achieve revenue, fundraising, and audience goals. Our service-oriented department enjoys exploring staff and partners’ goals and solving problems through creativity in external communications.

Job Summary

The Digital and Social Media Content Assistant is responsible for the following:

  • Generate and edit compelling and visually appealing content, including text, images, videos, and graphics, that aligns with our brand, messaging
  • Develop engaging and informative social media content that highlights the Lawrence Hall of Science’s programs, exhibits, and educational initiatives.
  • Stay updated with the latest social media trends, tools, and best practices to ensure content remains relevant and engaging.
  • Collaborate with the Digital Marketing Specialist to maintain a content calendar and ensure that posts are scheduled in advance.
  • Assist with the creation of photo and video archives, including tagging photos, and assist in managing the YouTube channel
  • May attend events for coverage with occasional evening or weekend work 

Responsibilities

  • 40% Filming short form content or taking pictures for social media
  • 25% Editing video and photography
  • 15% Support social media projects and campaigns
  • 10% Speaking to museum visitors and staff to conduct interviews
  • 10% Coordinate with Digital Marketing Specialist on content creation scheduling

Knowledge & Skills

  • Deep knowledge of major social media platforms (especially Instagram)
  • Proficiency in graphic design and video editing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Adobe Premiere Pro, CapCut).
  • Impeccable spelling and grammar and a commitment to getting it right thinking and ability to generate innovative content ideas.

Education & Training

Preferred Educational Background and/or Interests: Interest in photography and video production, media arts and communications, and science education
