Teen Research Program Residential Advisor

This position is an ideal opportunity for an undergraduate student. As a Residential Advisor, you will facilitate fun, engaging, and meaningful evening and Sunday social/ learning activities for teens. It is a great opportunity for growth and you’ll gain valuable experience in teaching and mentoring.

This position requires working full time 6/11-16/2023 plus ~10 hours the week prior for training.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an understanding of, and the ability to facilitate extracurricular evening and Sunday programming for teens in a fun, engaging, and meaningful way while inspiring them to find their pathway in STEM and higher education.
  • Lead teens around campus in an energetic, appropriate, and engaging way.
  • Manage a social learning and dorm overnight environment for participants’ well being and safety.
  • Serve as an enthusiastic role model and mentor for teens grades 10-12.
  • Be responsible for extracurricular activities material management, including set-up, clean-up, and storage.
  • Thoroughly understand the dorm and campus building safety and security and implement emergency procedures as needed.
  • Adhere to all of the policies and procedures of UC Berkeley and The Lawrence.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Responsible, organized, and healthy work ethic capable of working independently and collaboratively with an educational team.
  • Strong customer service and verbal communication skills.
  • Experienced and excited to share college experiences with teens grades 10-12.
  • Demonstrated creative teaching methods in informal or formal learning environments.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in science, education, youth development, or related field.
  • Reliable, punctual, and available to work full time 6/11-16/2023 and ~10 hours the week prior for training.
  • A good sense of humor, flexibility, and ability to think quickly and adapt.
  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds (carts are available).
  • Preferred have past or current experience as an RA, residential camp counselor, or trip leader.

Pay: $22/hr
