Mr. Malone was founder and co-director of the Full Option Science System Project and had been on the staff at the Lawrence Hall of Science, University of California at Berkeley, for over 50 years in curriculum development and teacher preparation. He began as materials specialist with the Science Curriculum Improvement Study (SCIS) project. He was a curriculum developer and instructor for the OBIS Project (Outdoor Biology Instructional Strategies), HAP (Health Activities Project), SAVI/SELPH (Science Activities for the Visually Impaired/Science Enrichment for Learners with Physical Handicaps), and FOSS K–5 and Middle School Programs. Mr. Malone was a creative materials developer and designer of instructional activities, and served as the lead writer on the FOSS materials. Mr. Malone held a bachelors degree in biology from the University of California and a masters in education from the California State University.
