Explore solar science and witness a solar eclipse! For the second time in six months, a partial solar eclipse will be visible from Berkeley. Join us for safe solar viewing, solar activities, expert explanations of how solar eclipses happen, and a live stream of totality in our Theater. From here, the Moon will cover approximately 35% of the Sun. Purchase Eclipse Glasses from our Discovery Store Solar Activities Ultraviolet Beads Use special light-sensitive beads to learn about the Sun’s UV rays and the ways we can protect ourselves from the Sun’s harmful light. Solar Clock Build your own paper sundial and learn how to tell the time of day using sunlight. Pinhole Sun Viewer Explore a simple and creative way to safely observe the Sun by building your own pinhole sun viewer. The science center will close at 1:00 p.m.
