This position is an excellent opportunity for undergraduate students passionate about youth development and who have spent time living on campus. In this role, you will organize and lead fun, engaging, and meaningful evening and weekend social and learning activities for teens. This position offers valuable experience in facilitating activities and mentoring middle and high school youth, as well as opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Manage a social learning and dorm overnight environment for participants’ well being and safety.
Thoroughly understand dorm and campus building safety and security, and implement emergency procedures as needed.
Develop an understanding of, and the ability to facilitate, extracurricular social and community building programming for teens in a fun, engaging, and meaningful way.
Serve as a role model and mentor for teens grades 7-12, and inspire them to find their pathway in STEM and higher education.
Lead teens around campus and downtown Berkeley in an energetic, appropriate, and fun way.
Be responsible for extracurricular activities materials management, including set-up, clean-up, and storage.
Adhere to all of the policies and procedures of UC Berkeley and The Lawrence.
Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change somewhat based on exact programming needs.
Responsible, organized, and healthy work ethic; capable of working independently and collaboratively with an educational team.
Strong customer service and verbal communication skills.
Excited to share college experiences with teens grades 7-12.
Experience leading social and community building activities in informal learning environments.
Reliable, punctual, and available to work and reside on campus for the required dates.
Able to traverse uneven ground and lift up to 25 pounds (carts are available).
Virtual Orientation (must attend one)– Wednesday, June 4 OR Thursday, June 5, 4-5:00 p.m.
Virtual Prep (TBD based on your team’s schedule)– week of June 9-12 for ~2 hours
In-person Training Tuesday, June 17, 9:00-5:00 p.m. at The Lawrence
In-person Set Up June 18 and 20, 9:00-5:00 p.m. at UC Berkeley campus (June 19 is a UC holiday)
In-person Residential Programming (one position for middle school and one for high school)- approximately 8 hours per day with room and board provided
Session 1: June 22-27, Sunday- Friday at UC Berkeley
Session 2: July 6-11, Sunday- Friday at UC Berkeley
Session 3: July 12-19, Saturday- Saturday at UC Santa Cruz (transportation provided)
Session 4: July 20-26, Sunday- Friday at UC Berkeley (8 p.m. departure Friday after unpacking at the Lawrence)
