Work Hours: Variable between 8:55 a.m. – 5:25 p.m., Monday-Sunday between November 18th and January 31st.

Overview:
The Lawrence Hall of Science is a public science center serving 150,000 visitors every year. We’re looking for seasonal associates available to work any dates from 11/18/24 – 1/31/25. We will hire people who are able to work throughout that period or for portions of that period. As the face of our business department, our associates are key to the organization. A knowledgeable, energetic, and friendly associate sets the tone and ensures that all visitors receive excellent service.

Duties

Cashiering 30%

  • Sell museum admission, books, toys, science kits, grab-and-go food items, movie tickets, planetarium shows, and memberships (depending on retail environment).
  • Follow proper cash handling procedures as outlined in the University of California Business and Finance Bulletin BUS-49 and departmental and campus cash handling policy including custody of daily money drawer, record and reconcile sales on designated forms, secure sales and credit card receipts
  • Accurately operate the electronic point-of-sale (cash register), including count of customers’ change, provide receipts, correctly process card transactions, ask supervisor for change in a timely manner to meet customer demand.

Customer Service 30%

  • Have knowledge of and be able to communicate all products and experiences to on site visitors and also to remote customers.  
  • Provide a high level of customer service, including resolving minor customer service problems according to predetermined protocols

Administrative Projects 30%

  • Data entry for memberships
  • Routine shipping and receiving
  • Financial reconciliation
  • General administrative tasks

Other 10%

  • Other duties as assigned by a supervisor

Qualifications

  • Cashiering experience in a retail store, food service, museum or other attraction is desired
  • Previous customer service experience is preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Enthusiastic, service-oriented personality
  • Reliable and self-motivated
  • Attention to detail and organized
  • Excel or previous database work is a bonus
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays required.
  • 18 years old
  • Ability to stand for up to 8 hours during a shift
  • Able to stock shelves from 6” to 6’
  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs
