2022 Highlights Reel

December 22, 2022

Thank you for an inspiring year!

As 2022 comes to a close, we celebrate our work, engaging people with the power of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to inspire tomorrow. With every year passing, far-reaching STEM education and engagement by diverse thinkers and doers become more critical than ever.

In 2022:

  •  We opened the Robert and Elizabeth Karplus Outdoor Nature Lab, where visitors explore nature like scientists, making observations and engaging in investigations.
  • We relocated our planetarium into a larger, permanent space where we can feature innovative and immersive ways to interact with the mysteries of the universe, large and small.
  • A new installation of 50 wildlife photographs from National Geographic photographer Joel Sartore kickstarted our campaign to refresh our popular Animal Discovery Zone into a bigger, brighter space to engage directly with animals.
  • Hundreds of campers built pinball machines, planned missions to Jupiter, and learned about biotechnology. We awarded almost $80,000 in summer camp scholarships to increase access to these enriching experiences.
  • In partnership with Science at Cal, we showcased UC Berkeley’s discovery and innovation in diverse community settings across the Bay Area.

And yet, this 2022 Look Back only hints at the breadth and impact of our work. Our renowned K–12 instructional materials and learning resources reached millions of children locally, nationally, and globally.

The Lawrence is more than a museum. We are UC Berkeley’s public science center dedicated to excellence, effectiveness, and innovation in STEM learning and broadening participation in science. To help us broaden and deepen our impact in 2023, please consider making a tax-deductible gift today to help us inspire tomorrow!
