March 13, 2019–Berkeley, CA—Amplify Science, a curriculum developed by researchers and experts at UC Berkeley’s Lawrence Hall of Science, has earned the highest ranking in a recent EdReports study. Of the curricula designed for grades 6 through 8 that EdReports reviewed, Amplify Science was the only one to receive an “all-green” rating.
Amplify Science is a series of curricular materials developed for grades K–8. The units blend hands-on investigations, literacy-rich activities, and interactive digital tools as they empower students to examine real-world problems as scientists and engineers do. Lawrence Hall of Science experts developed Amplify Science from the ground up to meet the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The program is flexible and teacher-friendly, enabling educators to adapt the units to meet their needs, resources, and preferences.
EdReports is an independent, nonprofit organization established to improve K–12 education. With the support of classroom educators, principals, district leaders, and state administrators, it examines curricula to help identify quality materials so all students can have access to resources that ensure that they thrive. This report rated Amplify Science and other instructional materials on three criteria: usability, coherence & scope, and NGSS alignment. Amplify Science received “green” ratings in each of these categories.
“We are proud to have received a top-tier rating from the EdReports review,” said Jacqueline Barber, Director of the Hall’s Learning Design Group. “Because we created Amplify Science specifically to help teachers meet the Next Generation Science Standards, this recognition by EdReports’ is deeply gratifying. School districts have been waiting for an independent, rigorous review of science curriculum materials—and the EdReports reviews provide precisely that.”
