Colorful Confetti Cannons Complete Captivating Commemoration of 2023

January 11, 2024

“Three! Two! One! Happy New Year!”

The crowd gathered close in the colorful exhibit hall housing our Making Music exhibit, buzzing with excitement underneath the music note chandelier. As the countdown, led by emcee Sue Guevara, Director of Audience Engagement and Sales, approached zero, the voices grew louder with anticipation.

When the countdown reached zero, the confetti cannons mounted on trusses surrounding Your Stage to Shine went off, showering the delighted crowd with a dazzling cloud of confetti. Music played, and our exhibit staff expertly programmed a light show that illuminated the shiny mylar confetti. This was the scene at just one of the eight confetti launches at our annual Grand Finale New Year’s Eve celebration!

“We had a blast welcoming both returning members and new visitors to one of our longstanding traditions at The Lawrence!” said Sue Guevara. “Folks really enjoyed the chance to celebrate all the fun we had together in 2023.”

In attendance was our Director Rena Dorph, who joined visitors and members in the throng of confetti watchers. In addition to taking in the sights and sounds of the confetti launch, Rena explored the exhibits, making a stop in the recently renovated Animal Discovery Zone.

“It was a joy to see so many happy parents, grandparents, and future scientists kicking off the new year together with discovery and exploration,” said Rena Dorph. “We’ve got so much to look forward to in 2024, from our upcoming celebration of Spring Break at The Lawrence to the opening of our next exhibition, The Future of Food, in the fall. We hope you’ll join us for special events, summer & winter camps, and much more this year!”

Thanks to all members and visitors who came out to send off 2023 and start the new year with a bang! The Lawrence has been hosting our annual family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration for nearly two decades, but the lights, music, and your enthusiasm made the 2023 edition one for the books. We can’t wait to share another extraordinary year of a-ha moments with you!
