“Broader impacts” describe the effects of research on society—the benefits beyond academia to the economy, public policy, science literacy, the increased participation of underrepresented minorities in STEM, the environment, and community partnerships, to name a few. The Lawrence Hall of Science plays a critical role in this effort! Our education experts partner with STEM researchers to bring inspiring and innovative educational experiences to communities and audiences beyond the walls of UC Berkeley.
The Lawrence Hall of Science will help tailor broader impact plans to the interests and STEM field of the STEM researcher, while also meeting the needs and requirements of each grant. Utilizing project teams from across the organization, we have the capacity to craft, execute, and measure broader impact activities. Outcomes and products have included new planetarium programs, science communication classes, exhibits, K-12 curricula, community citizen science activities, and multimedia products including books, videos, and websites.
