Dr. Menzies is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at SEPUP. Crystal’s career began as a teacher in Los Angeles and then transitioned to work with Local Education Agencies (LEAs), State Education Agencies (SEAs) and education nonprofits in the development and implementation of equitable initiatives that leverage stakeholder voice. Crystal also worked directly with schools and school districts in the design of research-based curricula focused on improving data and pedagogical practices in schools across California, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Washington D.C. Crystal earned her PhD in Urban Education from Temple University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Learning Research and Development Center at the University of Pittsburgh where her research focused on cultivating the community wealth of Black and Latine students in conceptually-rich STEM classrooms. She received a B.A. in History with a Spanish minor from Spelman College.
