Tips to
Beat the Heat

The Lawrence does not have air conditioning. Our over 50-year-old building is vast, and we have equal outdoor space. The temperature varies throughout, so here are some tips to ensure you enjoy a comfortable visit.

Don’t forget a water bottle.

Staying hydrated is essential during hot weather. Water fountains and filling stations are located throughout the building.

Cool off with drinks and treats.

The Lawrence Discovery Store offers a variety of cold drinks and frozen treats.

Catch some breezes, and stay out of the sun.

The Lawrence features two sizable outdoor exhibit areas. Plan your time outdoors carefully and take breaks in the large shaded areas. Sunscreen encouraged!

Some exhibits may be closed.

When indoor temperatures hit 80 degrees, our Planetarium and Animal Discovery Zone become especially uncomfortable. To keep the temperatures pleasant for humans and animals, they may be closed or have limited admission.
