Come celebrate Earth Day in style at the Outdoor Nature Lab! Explore the outdoors using hands-on tools, discover the fun of watercoloring in nature, learn about native bees and insects from UC Berkeley students, hear from Ohlone leaders about their traditions. You can also join EARTH.SPEAKS: Plaster Party Day! Earlier this month, Artist brooke smiley and the community came together to build an EARTH DOME in Forces That Shape the Bay! Join brooke to help in the final step in the process, where the dome will be plastered with earth and water to make sure it will last for years to come. If you are joining us for the plaster party, please consider: + Wearing clothes that can get muddy! + Wearing closed-toed shoes! + Bringing water bottle, sunscreen & hats!

Cafe Ohlone/’ottoy Initiative
The Lawrence Hall of Science is the home of UC Berkeley’s ‘ottoy initiative. The ‘ottoy initiative aims to foster understanding of and respect for Ohlone people and culture and to repair and improve our relationship with the Ohlone community. Vincent Medina and Louis Trevino, co-founders of mak-‘amham/Cafe Ohlone, will lead the initiative through their roles at The Lawrence and in collaboration with UC Berkeley’s Native American Thrive Initiative, Government & Community Relations, the Vice Chancellor for Research Office, and Berkeley Dining.
Nina Sokolov (Bee Biologist)
Nina Sokolov is a Ph.D. candidate studying disease ecology in managed and native bees of California. She uses art in her science to better understand the over 1,600 species of native bees in California and has created the following “Bee Colorful” activity. Dr. Signe White is a postdoctoral researcher studying how viruses influence biodiversity in moths and has also created fun coloring pages of important moth pollinators of California. Both Nina and Signe are in the Integrative Biology department at the University of California, Berkeley in Dr. Mike Boots’ lab. Can you tell the difference between a bee, wasp, or fly? What about a moth and a butterfly? Get to know how to tell apart the pollinators in your backyard by spinning the “To bee or not to bee” wheel game. Test yourself, learn pollinator trivia from experts, and win hand drawn insect coloring book pages!
UC Berkeley Entomology Club
Entomology Club is a fun group of bug-lovers who come together to explore interesting topics in entomology and arthropod biodiversity! In addition to weekly meetings, we aim to facilitate hands-on learning and practice in everything from collection and identification to raising live insects.
Wildlife Society at Berkeley
The Wildlife Society at Berkeley is a professional and social organization with the goal of creating a community for students who have a passion for wildlife, ecology, conservation, and so much more. By mixing professional activities, such as professional lectures and volunteering events, with fun events, such as hiking, zoo visits, and craft nights, we hope to create a space where students can learn and engage with their passions!
Perennial: UC Berkeley’s Undergraduate Environmental Journal
Founded in Fall 2019, Perennial: UC Berkeley’s Undergraduate Environmental Journal serves as an accessible platform to showcase the diverse work of UC Berkeley’s environmental community. Perennial publishes a semesterly issue that combines editorials, op-eds, research articles, and more — all written by undergraduate students. These publications aim to promote student scholarship, raise awareness of environmental issues and solutions, and foster eco-creativity.
Project Planet
Project Planet is a 501c(3) non-profit dedicated to creating Indigenous-focused, solution-oriented decolonial climate education projects, such as our course offered at UC Berkeley: Decolonizing Environmentalism. We aim to bridge the knowledge gap between environmentalists, decision-makers, and front-line communities, in order to develop impact-based solutions that are rooted in the voices and experiences of BIPOC communities.
Sozo Impact
Founded by first-generation immigrant Rika Iino and led by BIPOC women, SOZO is a contemporary arts agency and incubator working at the intersection of social impact, innovation and the arts, with a global portfolio of projects spanning live and digital artistic projects, artist coaching, and allyship training for organizations. SOZO’s dynamic suite of offerings as creative producers and cultural strategists aims to elevate the role of artists as leaders in society and drive systemic change.
