This free, two-day, in-person weekend workshop trains teachers on the Abridged series of the Foundations of Biotech curriculum from the Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE) program. The Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE) is an innovative science education program that introduces secondary school students to the excitement of scientific discovery through biotechnology.
The Foundations of Biotech labs and curriculum introduce students to biotech techniques and concepts through the exploration of recombinant DNA technology. The Abridged Series includes an introduction to micropipettes and gel electrophoresis, plasmid digestion, confirmation of digestion via electrophoresis, and bacterial transformation. The workshop is open to any high school science teacher interested in incorporating ABE into their class. Upon completion of the training, teachers will be eligible to check out equipment kits and receive the reagents and consumables free of charge.
