Understanding Youth Experiences in a Solar-technology-based Summer Program Through Culturally Responsive Research Practices Culturally relevant pedagogy in STEM learning environments has gained traction due to its importance in developing spaces that elevate the cultural beliefs, values, and knowledge of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities (Aaronson & Laughter, 2016). However, the impact of culturally relevant STEM programming cannot be fully understood without equitable and justice-oriented research approaches that center the perspectives and experiences of BIPOC communities as they navigate these learning spaces (Garibay & Teasdale, 2019). Drawing from a multi-year National Science Foundation-funded project, this paper will describe how we used culturally responsive research practices to study youth experiences and outcomes related to a culturally relevant, solar-technology-based summer program.
