The final bell rings, kids close their books with excitement, the sun shines brightly, and responsibilities vanish into the past. Summer is here and filled with fun, barbecues, and pool parties. The Hall is joining in on the fun with our Summer Fun Days events, which provide exciting activities that are educational at the same time.
Every Wednesday from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. from June 18 to August 20, you and your family can come up to the Hall for a unique activity or event that makes science both enjoyable and interactive. Also, all events are free with your admission, so you can continue your day by experiencing all the awesome exhibits and other activities the Hall has to offer.
Challenge yourself to scrub the rust off your summer brain and learn as much as you can so that you can show off your smarts when school starts up again. Learn about the insects and bugs that you see all over the place in the summer outdoors. You can even hold and touch these critters when the Insect Discovery Lab from SaveNature.org visits the Hall. Or you can make your own butterfly wings, create bug sunprints, and get your face painted like your favorite insect. Or you can talk with leading researchers in the field of insect science.
Fill your summer with hot and cool experiences, such as watching explosions (safe ones!) and learning about fire in our Flames, Flares, and Explosions event. Or, if you like building, join in some Summer Fun Days events that let you showcase your flair for engineering and creating. You can construct a boat and race it on our pond at our Boat Race, or build a hydraulic system, a wind turbine, and a bridge at our Engineering Festival. All these events are great outlets for your creativity and let you learn by doing.
You can also learn some chemistry in a tasty fashion. With the help of Chevron volunteers, you can mix together some ingredients, shake them in a plastic bag, and make your own ice cream — a longtime summer treat favorite — then enjoy some expert-made ice cream from Fenton’s. If you have an artistic eye or simply enjoy painting, you can learn how to mix up ingredients to form a foaming paint and use it to (temporarily!) color the Hall’s sidewalks.
Our Summer Fun Days events provide exciting activities that will make your summer even that much sweeter, while sharpening your brain at the same time!
