OBIS is an outdoor program that offers young people fun and challenging opportunities to investigate ecological relationships in their local environment. The total of 97 OBIS activities, which take youngsters outdoors to investigate biology and to increase their environmental awareness, can be used together or individually. Though the program was designed for 10- to 15-year-olds (grades 5–8), today both younger and older participants, including adults, enjoy participating in OBIS activities. Community groups—ranging from visitors to museums and nature centers to scout troops, church groups, and park and recreation programs—use OBIS in a wide variety of programs. Meanwhile, schools use OBIS to supplement their classroom curricula and to promote environmental awareness. All OBIS activities are available as free downloads on its website.
