Celebrate the school and work holiday at The Lawrence with only $5 admission. In addition to our biotech lab, design and maker space, and live animals meetups, we’re previewing our summer camp experiences and hosting the Alphabet Rockers for two concerts. Alphabet Rockers will perform songs from their 2023 Best Children’s Music GRAMMY-winning impactful album, The Movement. Exploring elements of hip hop, join the crew and dance, find your voice for change, and feel the love with the changemakers, who just won a GRAMMY. Celebrate The Lawrence’s original animated series Tuff Pupil with the Alphabet Rockers, the musicians who brought the episodes to life!

Alphabet Rockers make music that makes change. Founded by Kaitlin McGaw (she/her) and Tommy Shepherd (he/him/they), this intergenerational group creates brave spaces to shape a more equitable world through hip hop. Their GRAMMY-nominated albums inspire American kids and families to stand up to hate and be their brave and beautiful selves.
Our families need content that is healing, that reflects who we are and empowers us—that embraces Black liberation, Queer liberation, Indigenous rights, immigrant rights, and intersectionality. Alphabet Rockers curates this content with the community, centering children’s voices. We amplify authentic stories and interrupt the patterns that got us here. Witness how we do this collective work—Join us in the embodiment of real change.
Tuff Pupil was produced with UC Berkeley Computer Science faculty to help young people learn important ideas related to cyber security. Taye and Flori are high school students and best friends, and they’re also electronic hip hop duo Tuff Pupil. After school, they make music about the technology and science they encounter in their lives that they think other kids should know about. Each 5 minute episode demystifies an everyday phenomenon—how your local pizzeria can predict your order, or how online radio seems to always play the song you were dying to hear.
Parents, educators, librarians and community leaders are encouraged to use these videos with youth in your homes, schools and youth organizations to support conversations about how to safely and smartly use the internet.
