By Bus and Shuttle Service

Via the UC Berkeley Shuttle Service (Weekdays Only)

UC Berkeley runs shuttle buses Monday through Friday from the Berkeley BART station to the main campus, and from the main campus to The Lawrence. Call 510-642-5149 or 510-643-5708, or see Bear Transit Hill Line Schedule (Route “H”) for details.

Via AC Transit (Weekdays Only)

The #65 bus runs hourly on weekdays from the downtown Berkeley BART station to The Lawrence. For more information, please visit the Bay Area Traveler Guide at 511 or call “511” from any local area code to ask about AC Transit.

Weekday Road Construction: November 2022–October 2024

On weekdays between 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m., Centennial Drive may be reduced to one lane, between Grizzly Peak Boulevard and Stadium Rim Way, to accommodate construction activity.

General Directions
  1. Take 101 to San Francisco, then Hwy. 80 over the Bay Bridge, then 80 North towards Sacramento.
  2. Exit at University Avenue in Berkeley.
  3. Go about two miles to campus (the street ends) and turn left at the stoplight onto Oxford Street.
  4. Turn right onto Hearst Avenue at a stop light.
  5. Go uphill and turn right at a stoplight onto Gayley Road.
  6. Turn left onto Stadium Rim Way at the stop sign (just past the Greek Theater).
  7. Turn left at the next stop sign onto Centennial Drive. Go uphill about a mile. The Lawrence Hall of Science is on the left just below the top of the hill. Parking lots are on both the left and right.
Alternate route from Concord, Walnut Creek area
  1. Take Hwy. 24 West (680 to 24 West).
  2. Go through the Caldecott Tunnel, take the second exit, “Berkeley, North Hwy 13,” which becomes Tunnel Road.
  3. Stay on Tunnel Road, which becomes Ashby Avenue.
  4. Turn right onto College Avenue at a stoplight.
  5. Turn right onto Dwight Way at a stoplight.
  6. Turn left onto Prospect Street (two blocks above the stoplight at Piedmont Avenue).
  7. Turn right onto Stadium Rim Way (around the back of the stadium).
  8. Turn right onto Centennial Drive at the stop sign. Go uphill about a mile. The Lawrence Hall of Science is on the left just below the top of the hill. Parking lots are on both the left and right.
From 80/580/880 (San Francisco, Fremont, Marin, Richmond, Vallejo)
  1. Exit at University Avenue in Berkeley from 80/580.
  2. Go about two miles to campus (the street ends) and turn left at the stoplight onto Oxford Street.
  3. Turn right onto Hearst Avenue at a stoplight.
  4. Go uphill and turn right at stoplight onto Gayley Road.
  5. Turn left onto Stadium Rim Way at the stop sign (just past the Greek Theater).

From 13 (Warren Freeway); from Hayward, San Leandro, Piedmont, Oakland
  1. Exit “Hwy. 13 to Berkeley,” which becomes Tunnel Road and then Ashby Avenue.
  2. Turn right onto College Avenue at a stoplight.
  3. Turn right onto Dwight Way at a stoplight.
  4. Turn left onto Prospect Street (two blocks above the stoplight at Piedmont Avenue).
  5. Turn right onto Stadium Rim Way (around the back of the stadium).

From 880 North (Nimitz Freeway); from Fremont, Alameda
  1. Take 880 to 980
  2. Take 980 to Hwy. 24 (towards Walnut Creek)
  3. Exit at Claremont Avenue and turn left.
  4. Turn left onto College Avenue at a stoplight.
  5. Turn right onto Dwight Way at a stoplight.
  6. Turn left onto Prospect Street (two blocks above the stop light at Piedmont Avenue).
  7. Turn right onto Stadium Rim Way (around the back of the stadium).
  8. Turn right onto Centennial Drive at the stop sign. Go uphill about a mile. The Lawrence Hall of Science is on the left just below the top of the hill. Parking lots are on both the left and right.
From 101 (Bayshore Freeway); Peninsula: San Mateo, Palo Alto
  1. Take San Mateo Bridge (92) or Dumbarton Bridge (84) to the East Bay. Take 880 North, then 80 North towards Sacramento.
  2. Exit at University Avenue in Berkeley from 80.
  3. Go about two miles to campus (the street ends) and turn left at the stoplight onto Oxford Street.
  4. Turn right onto Hearst Avenue at a stoplight.
  5. Go uphill and turn right at a stoplight onto Gayley Road.
  6. Turn left onto Stadium Rim Way at the stop sign (just past the Greek Theater).
  7. Turn left at the next stop sign onto Centennial Drive. Go uphill about a mile. The Lawrence Hall of Science is on the left just below the top of the hill. Parking lots are on both the left and right.

Centennial Drive from Memorial Stadium will be closed for Cal football game days and Commencement.

By Car – Alternate Route Via Grizzly Peak

80W
  1. Take exit 13 toward Albany
  2. Turn left onto Cleveland Ave
  3. Take the 1st right onto Buchanan St
  4. Slight right onto Marin Ave
  5. At the traffic circle, continue straight to stay on Marin Ave
  6. Turn right onto Grizzly Peak Blvd
  7. Turn right on Centennial Drive. Lawrence Hall of Science is down Centennial about 1/4 mile
580E
  1. Take exit 13 on the left for Buchanan St
  2. Turn left onto Buchanan St/Buchanan Street Extension and Continue to follow Buchanan St
  3. Slight right onto Marin Ave
  4. At the traffic circle, continue straight to stay on Marin Ave
  5. Turn right onto Grizzly Peak Blvd
  6. Turn right on Centennial Drive. Lawrence Hall of Science is down Centennial about 1/4 mile
From Oakland via Grizzly Peak Boulevard
  1. Take Claremont Avenue (behind the Claremont Hotel at the intersection of Clarmont Avenue and Ashby Avenue) uphill to Grizzly Peak Blvd.
  2. Turn left at the stop sign (Grizzly Peak Boulevard) and go approximately three miles until the next stop sign.
  3. Turn left at the stop sign (Centennial Drive) and go downhill approximately 1/4 mile. The Lawrence Hall of Science is on the right. Parking lots are on both the left and right.
From Concord, Walnut Creek area
  1. Take Hwy. 24 West (680 to 24 West).
  2. Take the Fish Ranch Road exit and turn right onto Fish Ranch Road. Go uphill until the first stop sign.
  3. Turn right at the stop sign (Grizzly Peak Boulevard) and go approximately three miles until the next stop sign.
  4. Turn left at the stop sign (Centennial Drive) and go downhill approximately 1/4 mile. The Lawrence Hall of Science is on the right. Parking lots are on both the left and right. The address is One Centennial Drive.

Parking

We have plenty of paid parking available. The parking lots are administered by UC Berkeley Parking and Transportation. Parking machines take exact cash or credit cards and rates are:

The University of California self-pay machines do not give change.

Before leaving your car, note your license plate number; the parking machines will ask for your license plate number. You will receive a receipt at the machine, but you do not need to return to your car to display the receipt. Please do not leave valuables in your car.
