The Residential Add-On for the Teen Research Programs’ STEM tracks offers teens a unique UC Berkeley campus experience. Participants live in the dorms, share meals, make new friends, and create lasting memories—all while enjoying a convenient option for families who live farther from campus.
Residential programs are offered for different grade bands in different weeks, so please check that the option is available for your teen’s age group during your desired session. To purchase a Residential Add-On, you must be registered for a STEM track in the same week. Please double-check your dates before completing your purchase. Note that transportation to and from the program site is not provided.
New This Year: high school residential teens registered for sessions 5 and 6 can request “bridge coverage” (housing, meals, and supervision between sessions). For details, email lhsreg@berkeley.edu.
Session 2: 06/21/2026 - 06/26/2026 Location: UC Berkeley Campus Entering Grades 7-8-9
Session 3: 07/05/2026 - 07/10/2026 Location: UC Berkeley Campus Entering Grades 7-8-9
Session 5: 07/19/2026 - 07/24/2026 Location: UC Berkeley Campus Entering Grades 10-11-12
Session 6: 07/26/2026 - 07/31/2026 Location: UC Berkeley Campus Entering Grades 10-11-12
Important details for parents: The residential add-on option is available only to teens registered in a Teen Research Program STEM track and NOT as a stand-alone experience. Sessions 2 and 3 are open to teens entering grades 7–9 and sessions 5 and 6 are open to teens entering grades 10–12. Please double-check the dates of the Residential Add-on you wish to purchase match the program week for which you have already registered.
What teens can expect: The residential program is a full service experience with the best of Berkeley campus and the housing professionals, able to meet the needs of our teen population. Accommodations are in UC Berkeley dorms Unit 1, Unit 2, or Unit 3. The exact dorm unit will be determined closer to summer. In all units, rooms are doubles or triples on same-gender floors with gender-specific restrooms. Gender neutral restrooms will also be made available if needed. Meals provided in a campus dining hall like Crossroads or Cafe 3. Evening activities that balance choice, fun, and relaxation: explore downtown Berkeley, hang out on Memorial Glade with games or art, or use the dorm-based gym and music practice rooms. Free time is built in, with staff supervision and support always available (1:10 staff-to-student ratio).
How teens are supported: The residential add-on option is designed to give teens a taste of independence while making sure they have the support they need. A dedicated and trained residential team—including RAs, a Residential Coordinator, and a leadership staff member—lives on-site with teens. Teens are organized into smaller pods throughout the week to enable more personal check-ins and support. They are supervised at all times even if from a safe distance, offering them a sense of freedom and independence. Staff will make sure teens travel together and get to meals and programming on time. Teens are expected to wake up and get ready on their own.
