From 2018 through 2020, with funding support from the Stephen D. Bechtel, Jr. and Heller Foundations, the Lawrence Hall of Science and Justice Outside (formerly known as Youth Outside) co-designed and implemented a pilot workshop series that aimed to support capacity building in environmental education organizations to position them to advance equity and inclusion in their organizations.
As part of this pilot project, the Research Group at the Lawrence Hall of Science conducted an evaluation that aimed to understand the (1) design and development process and (2) the experience and perceived influence of the project activities on participating organizations and individuals. The evaluation aimed to use culturally responsive practices to ensure that the design and execution of the evaluation was responsive to the context, participants and communities. This summative report aims to describe some of the key lessons learned from the evaluation as well as insights and implications for subsequent efforts to replicate the WTEO project nationally.
