Featured Projects of The Lawrence Hall of Science

East Bay Academy for Young Scientists

Explore a pop-up exhibit about our East Bay Academy for Young Scientists (EBAYS)! EBAYS programs engage youth in community and citizen science projects researching the levels and effects of several pollutants in their cities. Discover the positive influence participation in EBAYS has on students’ perceptions of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), as well as interest in and awareness of STEM careers.

Virtually Human

Lawrence Hall of Science researchers are exploring how young learners can make sense of and interact with artificial intelligence. Engage with the various AI experiences in our Virtually Human exhibit as you learn how AI can solve problems. Then participate in a fun prototyping activity of new experiences in development for the exhibit.

Supporting Rightful Presence in Museum Spaces

Learn about an ongoing collaboration between The Lawrence and the Ohlone community to develop innovative museum experiences that explore indigenous science and Ohlone ways of knowing. The project invited Ohlone youth to engage in workshops to design virtual and augmented reality exhibits that center the indigenous experience and support a rightful sense of belonging at The Lawrence and beyond for the Ohlone community.

Featured projects from across UC

NSF Center for Genetically Encoded Materials (C-GEM)
Explore the future of science at the molecular level using pasta shapes! C-GEM scientists are reprogramming nature’s machinery to create entirely new types of materials and medicines, inspired by how proteins are built in our bodies. Their work combines biology, chemistry, and computation to explore the future of science at the molecular level.

10k Science and the Innovative Genomics Institute
Immerse yourself in a virtual reality experience using the 10k Science VR platform that showcases how CRISPR gene editing technology is being used to cure sickle cell disease and talk with Innovative Genomics Institute scientists who are part of the team who pioneered this work.
