In September 2022, NASA successfully altered the orbit of an asteroid called Dimorphos by using unmanned technology launched almost a year beforehand! Asteroid science has never been more exciting! In this camp, your young astronomer will journey through our Solar System, exploring the asteroid belt and investigating specific asteroids. Together, we will learn about the asteroids’ surfaces and the challenges of landing on them. During this program, campers will use a variety of materials to design and build a rover and landing gear to explore an asteroid of their choosing, using what they learn about asteroids along the way! Participants will gain new knowledge of our Solar System and an understanding of the engineering design process.
