Rachel joined SEPUP in January 2024, bringing extensive experience in science education from a variety of contexts. After several years as a research biologist, she pivoted to education where she taught middle school and high school biology. Rachel then went on to receive her doctorate, where she studied the dilemmas high school biology teachers face when teaching evolution. Since completing this degree, she has worked in the research and development of NGSS-based curricular materials and assessments, gaining most of this experience with educational technology companies. Most notably, during Rachel’s time at Amplify, she developed and led professional learning workshops, and gained additional expertise as a Program/Product Manager, and as a Senior Learning Scientist during her work on the Amplify Science curriculum. Rachel earned a B.S. in Environmental Studies from the University of Michigan, an M.S. in Biology from the University of Central Florida, and a Ph.D. in Science Education from the University of Arizona. When she’s not collaborating on curricular projects at SEPUP, Rachel enjoys volunteering with local informal science organizations and engaging with others in the community (teachers, students, etc.) about science.
