For Teen Research Programs 2024

Myra Fisun

Myroslava Fisun graduated from Albany High School and is really excited to be attending her dream school, UC Berkeley. She is a current undergraduate student at UC Berkeley studying Society and Environment with plans to pursue graduate studies in environmental law. On campus, she is involved in a number of student organizations such as the SDG Undergraduate Research Group and the ASUC Sustainability Commission. Outside of class, she interns with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and coaches figure skating at Oakland Ice Center. Growing up in the Bay Area, she has always been fascinated with science and its applications but is particularly interested in innovations humans can make to mitigate global warming.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time in and around nature, taking her dog on long walks, spending time with friends and family, and reading books about historical events and philosophy.

Yvan Peña

Yvan Peña is an Aerospace Engineering student at UC Berkeley. He was born and raised in the East Bay and is excited to share his skills and give back to youth in the local community. Yvan studies physics, calculus, and computer science with an interest in environmentalism.

In his free time he hikes, plays tennis, and explores new places.

Josephine Grell

Josephine Grell is a recent graduate from the University of Washington, Seattle where she received her B.S. in Marine Biology with a minor in Climate Science. During her time at U.W., she focused on the marine ecology impacts caused by climate change, climate solutions, and science communication through her research on kelp forests, invertebrates, and ocean acidification. She is working as the Teen Research Programs Coordinator and Marine Biology instructor this summer at The Lawrence.

Josephine was born and raised in the Bay Area, and in her free time, she enjoys reading, bouldering, and photography.
