Call for Speakers: The Lawrence Hall of Science’s Champagne Supernova featuring Ignite Talks

July 10, 2025

Ignite your curiosity and share your spark for science!

Join us Thursday, November 6th for Champagne Supernova: a one-of-a-kind party that combines science and storytelling! The Lawrence Hall of Science and Ignite San Francisco have teamed up:

  • The Lawrence transforms young lives through science learning: we create curriculum for schools nationwide, welcome visitors in our Berkeley science center, and conduct research that changes science learning worldwide.
  • Ignite Talks delights audiences across the globe with their signature program of high-energy 5-minute talks, earning their motto: “Enlighten us, but make it quick!”

At Champagne Supernova, you’ll have your curiosity ignited by fast-paced science talks while you’re inspired by the bright scientific future we’re building at The Lawrence. We’ll eat, drink, laugh, learn, and raise funds for The Lawrence’s important work!

We’re seeking talks inspired by The Lawrence’s focus on science issues with global social impact.

We’re seeking volunteer speakers for this lightning-speed talk format that challenges speakers to express their ideas in exactly 5 minutes using 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds. This is a chance to share something you find fascinating! Your talk can be geeky, poignant, funny . . . or you can get creative with music, spoken word, or any artful approach that can fit into 5 minutes and 20 slides.

We’re seeking talks inspired by The Lawrence’s focus on science issues with global social impact — like climate, energy, biotechnology, artificial intelligence – or science we highlight in our public science center like space exploration, dinosaurs, food, transportation. Check out The Lawrence’s line-up of exhibits and activities for more inspiration!

If this sounds fun to you, please share your concept for a talk using this form! Our organizers will select a line-up that is diverse in topics. Let’s light up The Lawrence with your brilliant ideas and contagious enthusiasm!
