Explore the intersection of science and art during Spring Break at The Lawrence! From March 28–April 5, we’ll be open every day with hands-on discovery and fun for kids on break from school. The Flaming Lotus Girls return to The Lawrence for a third-straight year of flame-fueled art. Join us to meet the makers, explore the engineering behind the fire, and see what happens when industrial steel meets creative spark. The ‘ammatka Cafe will be open Wednesday–Sunday, 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. during Spring Break. Haven by Flaming Lotus Girls Daily, 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Haven is a large interactive sculpture made from steel and reclaimed industrial materials. The giant metal nest houses a mechanical cockatoo that produces a small, controlled puff of fire when visitors press a button. Haven invites visitors to explore how metals, fuels, sensors, and human imagination can work together to shape a shared public artwork. Haven operates rain or shine!
The Flaming Lotus Girls are a female-driven, volunteer collective that creates large-scale fire and metal sculptures. Founded in 2000, the group has grown to more than 200 members, welcoming all genders and empowering people to develop fabrication, engineering, and creative leadership skills through hands-on learning
