Spring Break at The Lawrence Osage body and earth artist brooke smiley and SOZO will join The Lawrence for an art installation of EARTH.SPEAKS, smiley will lead visitors in building earth markers in Forces That Shape the Bay, collaborating with participants across organizations, including BIONEERS Native Youth Leadership Program. EARTH.SPEAKS is a land-based art project aimed at healing and uplifting Native voices through community creation of earth markers, a sustainable practice of sculpture building. Community building will begin on March 31. Come check out brooke’s work and learn from her about sustainable architecture! See how brooke connects with the earth to make art that can last 1,000 years! All are welcome to come help mix the earth that will become the earth works! Want to get a little deeper in the mud? You can sign up for a session to get hands-on with brooke for 75 minutes- learning all about the process of earth work building! Bioneers
Bioneers is an innovative nonprofit organization that highlights breakthrough solutions for restoring people and planet. Indigeneity is a Native-led Program within Bioneers that promotes Indigenous approaches to solve the earth’s most pressing environmental and social issues. They produce the Indigenous Forum, original media, educational curricula, youth programming, and catalytic initiatives to support the leadership and rights of First Peoples. Their Native Youth Leadership Program creates opportunities for Native youth to participate in, network at, and be empowered by attending the annual Bioneers Conference and Indigenous Forum.
