A trifecta of Berkeley organizations are teaming up for the fun downtown Oakland street fair, First Fridays on August 5. This month’s First Fridays theme is “Family Fun,” and Science at Cal, The Lawrence On-The-Go, and Berkeley Lab are coming prepared with their most engaging and fun science activities to make First Fridays a go for the whole family! Meet the scientist, make & take science activities, and explore live science experiments, all from our booth!
Create your own Bunny Copter with a fun, quick, hands-on STEM activity, and make a souvenir to take home with you after the fair. In a short period of time, you’ll get to make a flying copter, observe it in action, and think about the “what if” questions—What if we reverse the blades? What if we add more blades? How will this affect its flight? By asking questions and encouraging experimentation, you can keep the learning going at home.
In addition, get the chance to meet two UC Berkeley scientists, Antonio Del Rio Flores, a Graduate Researcher in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, and Naama Weksler, a Laboratory Technician in the Miller Lab in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology, who will guide you through real laboratory samples using a microscope up close! Ask any questions you have about Cal’s cutting-edge research with our friendly team of experts.
Stop by for an evening of non-stop science fun!
