Constructing Understanding: Learning in Action BEETLES Price: $200 Sessions: 1 session Workshop Schedule #1 Wednesday, May 20, 2026 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM PT Enrollment Required Please log in to check your access or purchase this workshop. In Constructing Understanding: Learning in Action, participants will explore how learning happens by participating in a shared model activity and discussing research on learning. In the session, participants will focus on how the brain incorporates new information with prior knowledge, as well as the role of discussion and social engagement in learning. This session is heavy on theory and provides a rationale for constructivist learning design and instructional approaches. In this session, participants are invited to: Reflect on research about teaching, learning, and scientific conceptual understanding. Experience a variety of instructional strategies through a model lesson, then reflect upon those strategies and their impact. Begin to develop their own conceptual model of learning. This session is adapted from the BEETLES session, Constructing Understanding. Participation in this session is encouraged (though not required) as a prerequisite for the future session, Constructing Understanding: Applying Strategies and Tools. Who is this workshop for? This workshop is for anyone who is interested in learning more about how learning happens. We welcome: Folks who facilitate learning outside of the classroom environment, Folks who manage educational programs and frontline staff, Folks who design learning experiences.
