A field trip to The Lawrence gives your students new and exciting ways to engage with science! Make your field trip experience unique by exploring our hands-on exhibits at our science center in Berkeley.
Explore our hands-on exhibits, meet Pheena the Fin Whale on our plaza, and enjoy our Ingenuity Challenges when you visit The Lawrence on an Exhibit Experience. You’ll tour our exhibits at your own pace, letting your group take the lead to investigate what interests them.

For a deeper experience, add a Planetarium show to your visit. Shows are 30 minutes long and can accommodate up to 36 students plus their chaperones (a max limit of 45 people total viewing the show).
Times Available for School Groups:
Schools from the 9 Bay Area counties may be eligible for Transportation Funds from the Environmental Volunteers, Excursion Grants from Philanthropic Ventures Foundation, or free BART tickets through Yoots.

Supplement your field trip experience with one of our in-depth add-on experiences. Please book at least 4 weeks in advance.
Available Wednesday & Thursday, 10:15-10:45 a.m.$4 per student (32 student maximum, Grades K-12, through Dec. 16)
Join us for an up close and personal investigation of one of our live animals! Students will use their senses to make observations and ask questions to learn more about the animal’s habitat, behaviors, adaptations & more! This inquiry-based program is designed to cater to learners’ curiosity and a variety of topics can be discussed based on what students are interested in. The featured animal depends on availability and will most likely be a turtle, lizard or snake.

Explore our brand new Outdoor Nature Lab! Climb our stump stairs, observe birds and wildlife from one of our observation decks, walk amongst pollinators as they zip by your head, and practice using our observational tools. Students will follow a self-guided scavenger hunt to further immerse themselves in the natural world. After exploring outdoors, they will see the 3D film “Backyard Wilderness” at 12:00 noon. Let your students get outside and learn how to appreciate nature in all outdoor settings, from the forest to the schoolyard!
The Nature Investigations Add-On will be available starting January 11, 2023.
